History
The Oakland Ballers, also called the Oakland B's, started playing in 2024. The team began after the Oakland Athletics moved to Las Vegas. A group called the Oakland 68s collected over $2 million to create the team. They wanted fans to help own the team through a crowdfunding effort in 2024. Don Wakamatsu was named the team's first executive vice president of baseball operations. The first player to join was Dondrei Hubbard, announced in December 2023.
The team is based in Oakland, California. They planned to play at Laney College but later decided to use Raimondi Park in West Oakland, which can hold 4,000 fans. In 2024, Kelsie Whitmore became the first woman to play in the Pioneer League with the Oakland Ballers and also the first woman to start a game in that league. Later that year, the team changed managers, letting go of Micah Franklin and naming Aaron Miles as interim manager. In April 2025, the Ballers played an exhibition game against the San Jose Giants, called the Battle of the Bay 2.0. This was the first time a Major League Baseball affiliate team played against an independent league team. The Giants won that game 5β2.
