OhioHealth is a big group of hospitals and healthcare places based in Columbus and the Central Ohio area. It is a not-for-profit group, meaning it does not try to make money for owners but instead uses its money to help people stay healthy.
The system has 16 hospitals and more than 300 places where doctors see patients. It also helps people at home, gives out medical equipment, and offers many other health services. All of this helps people in 55 counties in Ohio.
As of May 2025, OhioHealth had over 35,000 doctors, workers, and volunteers helping to take care of people. The group brought in more than $6.3 billion in money to pay for its work.
History
OhioHealth started in 1891 with the creation of the Protestant Hospital Association, the fourth hospital in Columbus and the first not linked to the Roman Catholic Church. In 1922, it became White Cross Hospital and was supported by the Ohio Methodist Episcopal Conference. During the Great Depression, only the United Methodist Church kept supporting it.
The hospital grew quickly and in 1958 began building at its current location, naming it Riverside Methodist. It kept growing and expanding into new areas of medicine.
In 1984, U.S. Health Corporation of Columbus was formed to meet changing healthcare needs. Riverside Methodist joined this group, and over time, more hospitals like Mercy Hospital, Marion General Hospital, Grant Medical Center, and Hardin Memorial Hospital also joined. In 1997, after settling a lawsuit, U.S. Health Corporation became OhioHealth.
In July 2022, OhioHealth announced plans to eliminate some jobs in information technology and revenue cycle departments by January 3, 2023, to become more focused on patients. They planned to keep many IT and revenue cycle positions.

Additionally, in 2015-2016, U.S. News & World Report placed Riverside Methodist Hospital's neuroscience program at 38 out of 50 on its list of “America’s Best Hospitals” for neurology and neurosurgery.
