Origen was a professional esports organisation based in Europe. Its main League of Legends team played in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), the top league for the game in Europe. It was started by Enrique "xPeke" Cedeño Martínez after he left Fnatic.
In 2018, Origen was bought by RFRSH Entertainment, a company that also owned the Danish CS:GO team Astralis. Later, in July 2019, Astralis and Origen split from RFRSH Entertainment and created the Astralis Group. On 15 September 2020, the Astralis Group announced that all of its esports teams, including Origen, would be combined under the Astralis brand.
History
Origen was a professional esports team based in Europe. It started on 7 December 2014, founded by Enrique "xPeke" Cedeño Martínez. The team’s main focus was the game League of Legends, and they joined the top European league, the League of Legends European Championship (LEC).
In 2015, Origen qualified for the big international tournament, the League of Legends World Championship. They did well, reaching the semi-finals before losing to another strong team. Over the years, Origen had ups and downs, sometimes doing very well and other times struggling to stay in the top league. In 2018, they won the European Masters competition. Finally, in September 2020, Origen changed its name and became part of Astralis.
