Osbornia
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Osbornia is a monotypic genus of mangrove in the myrtle family Myrtaceae. The only species in this genus is Osbornia octodonta, commonly called the myrtle mangrove. This special plant grows in coastal areas of Borneo, the Philippines, the Lesser Sunda Islands, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and northern Western Australia.
It was first described in 1862 by Ferdinand von Mueller, based on material collected in Trinity Bay. He published the description in his book Fragmenta Phytographiæ Australiæ. The myrtle mangrove is usually found on the landward side of mangrove forests, where it plays an important role in its environment.
