Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. It was designed by Benedict Williamson, an architect who later became a Catholic priest. The church sits on Stephendale Road, and its parish house is nearby on Tynemouth Street. This beautiful building serves as a place of worship and community for many people in the area.

Interior

The church has tall classical columns and Romanesque arches that let in lots of light, making it feel very grand and bigger than it looks. It was built shortly after the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb in Egypt, so some inside details show the interest in Egyptian art from that time. The Stations of the Cross each have their own special thoughts for reflection.

History

In 1914, a local lady lost her son during the First World War. In memory of her son, she bought an old rubbish tip in 1922 and built the church of Our Lady there. She gave a silver cup to the first baby baptized there and furniture to the first couple who got married. The church has been a parish church ever since.
