History

In 1978, the Trans-Gabon Railway was connected to Owendo.

In 2023, Fortescue made an agreement to mine iron ore at Belinga. They planned to use roads and trains to bring the ore to the port of Owendo. At first, about 2 million tonnes of ore would be transported.

Industry

Owendo has a cement factory where cement is made.
