Paibi is a small village in China, located in Hunan Province. This village is very important for scientists who study Earth's history because it holds a special place called the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP). This point helps scientists decide where one part of the Cambrian Period ends and another begins.

The Cambrian Period is an ancient time when many animals first appeared on Earth. Paibi was chosen for this important role in 2003 after being compared with other places, including one in Kazakhstan. The rocks in Paibi show clear signs of changes that happened millions of years ago.

One of the key signs scientists look at in Paibi is a change in tiny sea animals called trilobites. They also study special chemicals in the rocks to learn more about how the Earth changed during this time. Because of this work, the time after this boundary is called the Paibian Age.
