Palm City is a place in Florida where many people live. It is not a city with its own government, but it is part of Martin County. In the year 2020, about 25,883 people lived there. Palm City is close to a bigger area called the Port St. Lucie Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes many towns and cities nearby. It is a quiet place where families and people enjoy living.
Geography
Palm City is located in northeast Martin County, Florida. It is close to several places, including North River Shores to the northeast, Stuart to the east, and Port St. Lucie to the north. The area covers 16.4 square miles (42 km2), with 13.9 square miles (36 km2) of land and 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2) of water. It is about 100 miles (160 km) north of Miami.
Demographics
2020 census
According to the 2020 census, Palm City had a population of 25,883 people. The average age was 50.8 years, with 20% of people under 18 and almost 28% aged 65 or older. For every 100 females, there were about 92 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over, there were about 89 males aged 18 and over.
All residents lived in urban areas. There were 10,680 homes and 6,799 families, with 27% of families having children under 18. Most homes (about 60%) were led by married couples, while around 24% were single-person households, and about 16% had someone aged 65 or older living alone.
There were 11,651 places to live, and about 8% were empty. The rate of empty homes owned by people was 2.2%, while the rate of empty rental homes was 10.3%.
2000 census
In the year 2000, Palm City had 20,097 people living there. The population density was 1,373 people per square mile. Most people identified as White, with smaller groups of African American, Native American, Asian, and others. About 3% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
There were 8,458 homes, and about 27% had children under 18. Over 66% of homes were led by married couples, while around 25% were not families. About 22% of homes had only one person, and 12% had someone aged 65 or older living alone. The average number of people per home was 2.35, and per family was 2.72.
The population ages ranged widely, with about 21% under 18, 3% between 18 and 24, 23% between 25 and 44, 26% between 45 and 64, and 27% aged 65 or older. The average age was 47 years. For every 100 females, there were about 92 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over, there were about 89 males aged 18 and over.
The average income for a home was $62,362, and for a family was $69,688. Men earned about $48,852 on average, while women earned about $33,699. The average income per person was $35,213. About 3% of the population lived below the poverty line, including about 5% of children under 18 and 2% of people aged 65 or older.

Government
Palm City is an unincorporated area in Martin County. It is managed by the county's Board of County Commissioners. Martin County has five districts, and Palm City is part of District 5, represented by Ed Ciampi. The county handles all government services for the area.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office offers police protection. Fire and emergency medical services are given by Station 21 of the Martin County Fire Rescue.
Education
Palm City has several schools for children to learn. There are middle schools like Hidden Oaks Middle School, and elementary schools such as Bessey Creek Elementary School, Citrus Grove Elementary School, and Palm City Elementary School.
There are also private schools for younger children, including Alphabet Farms, Appletree Academy, High Hopes, Immanuel Early Learning Center, Little Peoples Academy, Martin Downs Montessori School, Peace Christian Academy, The Learning Cover, and United Methodist. The area also has a library called the Peter and Julie Cummings Library, which is part of the Martin County Library System.

Palm City has important roads that help people travel. These include Florida's Turnpike and I-95. These roads make it easier for residents and visitors to get around.
Notable people
Palm City is home to many interesting people who have achieved success in different fields. Some of these people include Dickey Betts, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, and Dan Bongino, who became the 20th deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2025. Others include Ken Duke, a professional golfer on the PGA Tour, and Tom Phoebus, a baseball pitcher who won a World Series championship with the Baltimore Orioles. The area has also been home to leaders like Walter Philip Leber, who governed the Panama Canal Zone, and Brian Mast, a U.S. representative for Florida's 21st congressional district.
