The Pew Research Center (also simply known as Pew) is a nonpartisan American think tank based in Washington, D.C.. It works to give people information about important social issues, what people think about things, and how groups of people are changing in the United States and around the world.

Pew does many kinds of research, like asking people questions to learn what they think, studying groups of people, and looking closely at what appears in media. All of this helps us understand better how society is changing.

The Pew Research Center says it does not take sides on political issues. It is part of the Pew Charitable Trusts and works with groups that want to make sure research about public opinion is done in a clear and honest way.

History

In 1990, the Times Mirror Company started a research project called the Times Mirror Center for the People & the Press. It focused on conducting polls about politics and policies. In 1996, the Pew Charitable Trusts became its main sponsor and renamed it the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

Later, in 2004, the Pew Research Center was established in Washington, D.C.. Over the years, different leaders have guided the center, helping it grow and provide valuable information to people around the world.

Funding

The Pew Research Center is a nonprofit group and gets most of its money from the Pew Charitable Trusts. For some studies about different religions around the world, it also gets funding from the Templeton Foundation.

The Pew Research Center studies many important topics that help us understand society and the world. Their research covers areas like U.S. politics, international affairs, immigration, race and ethnicity, religion, age groups, gender views, family life, the economy, science, technology, news and media, research methods, and information about different regions and countries.
