Phophi Ramathuba

Phophi Constance Ramathuba was born on 15 August 1973. She is a South African politician and medical doctor. Since June 2024, she has served as the Premier of Limpopo.
Ramathuba is a member of the African National Congress. She joined the provincial legislature in May 2015. From that time until June 2024, she worked as the Limpopo MEC for Health, helping to take care of people's health in the region.
Early life and career
Phophi Ramathuba was born on 15 August 1973 at Elim Hospital in Waterval and grew up in Mashamba, which was part of South Africa's Transvaal Province. She is one of five children. She finished her schooling at Mbilwi Secondary School and later studied at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, where she earned degrees in medicine and surgery. She also got a master's degree in medical pharmacology from the University of Pretoria and took courses in health and business leadership.
Ramathuba began her work as an intern at Mokopane Hospital. Before joining the Limpopo provincial government, she was the chief executive of Voortrekker Hospital and the chairperson of the SA Medical Association.
Political career
Phophi Ramathuba has been a member of the African National Congress for a long time. She became a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature on May 27, 2015, and was appointed to manage health issues in the area.
She was chosen again for the legislature in the election on May 8, 2019, and continued her role in health management.
Premiership
After the 2024 national and provincial elections, the African National Congress chose Phophi Ramathuba to be their candidate for the next leader of Limpopo. She was elected during the first meeting of the new government, making her the first woman to serve as the Premier of Limpopo.
Personal life
Phophi Ramathuba has two daughters. In July 2020, she shared that she had tested positive for COVID-19.
Corruption
Phophi Ramathuba has said that claims about unfair actions in the Mokgalakwena municipality are not true. She speaks out to clear her name and show that she is working hard to support her community.
