Polygono, Athens
Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Discoverer experience
Polygono is a neighborhood in Athens, Greece. Unlike other parts of the city, it has fewer buildings because rules do not allow very tall buildings to be built there.
Important courts for the city of Athens are found in Polygono. The name Polygono comes from an old platform with many sides that was used for parades. This platform was placed opposite where the courts are now. In ancient times, the area was called Anchesmos.
Sometimes Polygono is also called Gypareika because a man named Pavlos Gyparis, who was a guard for a leader named Eleftherios Venizelos, owned land there. Because of this connection, the area is sometimes called "Eleftherios Venizelos' neighbourhood," and the main park there is named after him.
