Presidente Epitácio is a town in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. It was named after Epitácio Pessoa. As of 2020, about 44,389 people live there, spread across an area of 1260 square kilometers. The town sits at an elevation of 310 meters above sea level. It is located right along the Paraná River, which serves as the border with the neighboring state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

History

The town of Presidente Epitácio was created by a state law in 1948. It was named after Epitácio Pessoa, who was once the President of Brazil.

Geography

Presidente Epitácio has several important natural areas. One is the Lagoa São Paulo Reserve, which covers 937 hectares, or about 2,320 acres. Another is part of the Great Pontal Reserve, created in 1942, which spans 246,800 hectares or 610,000 acres. The town also includes 11% of the Mico Leão Preto Ecological Station, established in 2002 and covering 6,677 hectares or 16,500 acres.

Media

In the past, the city’s phone and communication services were provided by a company called Telecomunicações de São Paulo. In July 1998, this company was bought by another company called Telefónica. In 2012, Telefónica started using the brand name Vivo. Today, this company provides services for mobile phones, landlines, internet (including fiber optics and 4G), and television (both satellite and cable).

Transportation

Presidente Epitácio has an airport called Geraldo Moacir Bordon State Airport to help people travel.

Climate

Presidente Epitácio has a tropical climate, which means it is generally warm and sunny throughout the year. This kind of climate is typical for many places in Brazil, making it a comfortable area for people to live in, with plenty of sunshine and warmth.

Christianity is practiced in the city in a few ways.

The Catholic church in the area is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Presidente Prudente.

Many different Protestant beliefs are also found here, especially Pentecostal groups. The largest of these is the Assemblies of God in Brazil, along with the Christian Congregation in Brazil and others. These groups are becoming more common across Brazil.
