Pune Suburban Railway
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The Pune Suburban Railway, also called Pune Local, is a train system that helps people travel between Pune and the areas around it in Maharashtra. It is run by Central Railway, which is part of the big Indian Railways.
There are two main routes for these trains. One goes from Pune Junction to Lonavala, and a shorter part of that route runs from Shivaji Nagar to Talegaon. On the Pune Junction to Lonavala route, there are 17 trains, and on the Shivaji Nagar to Talegaon route, there are 4 trains. There are also special DEMU trains that go from Pune Junction to Daund and Baramati.
History
The Central Railway started using special trains called electric multiple units (EMU) on the railway line between Pune Junction and Lonavala on March 11, 1978. Before that, regular trains used this line. These new trains made the trip faster, cutting the travel time from 2.5 hours to just 1.5 hours.
For many years, the trains had nine cars, but in March 2009, they switched to bigger trains with twelve cars.
Stations
The Pune Suburban Railway has several stations along its routes. Some of these stations are important endpoints of the lines.

Services
Pune–Lonavala EMU
Pune–Daund–Baramati DEMU
This part of the railway got electric wires added in 2017, but it now uses special trains called DEMUs. Since March 2017, three DEMUs started running on the Pune to Daund track, and one DEMU runs between Pune and Baramati. Two DEMUs go from Daund to Baramati. There are ideas to add more train services here soon.

Proposed plans
The budget for 2010-11 included several ideas to improve the Pune Suburban Railway. These plans included creating special platforms for trains going to Lonavala and Talegaon, adding more trains during busy times, and starting a special shuttle service between Pune, Saswad Road, Jejuri, and Satara. There were also plans for a third train track on the Pune–Lonavala route and adding more train stops on certain lines.
A new train station was also suggested west of the current station, with space for more trains and better connections between platforms. The plan also included making Hadapsar bigger so more trains could start and end their trips there.
