Rangkasbitung, often simply called Rangkas, is a town and administrative district in the Lebak Regency of Banten Province on the island of Java, Indonesia. It serves as the main center for the surrounding area and covers about 73.76 square kilometers. Over the years, the town's population has grown, with numbers rising from 116,659 people in 2010 to 134,945 in 2020, and estimates suggest around 144,733 people lived there by mid-2023.
One of the town's notable features is the Multatuli Museum, which opened its doors in 2018. The museum offers visitors a chance to explore important historical artifacts and learn about the region's past. Rangkasbitung holds a special place as both a local administrative hub and a spot for those interested in history.

Climate
Rangkasbitung has a tropical rainforest climate with lots of rain all year long. This means the town stays warm and wet throughout every season.
Transportation
Rangkasbitung is located on the road that connects Jakarta, Serpong, and Pandeglang. It is also linked by the western railway line of Java, which runs from Jakarta to Serang and continues to Merak. The town is served by the Jakarta Metrorail.
The town is passed by the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road. This important highway connects Jakarta, Tangerang, Serang, and plans to extend all the way to Panimbang. It also links to Carita Beach, Tanjung Lesung, and Ujung Kulon National Park, making travel and development in the area much easier.

Notable residents
The town was once home to Eduard Douwes Dekker, also known as Multatuli, who wrote the famous story Max Havelaar after living and working there. Another notable person from this town is Eugenia van Beers, the mother of famous American rock musicians Eddie van Halen and Alex van Halen.
There is also a historic house in Rangkasbitung where Eduard Douwes Dekker once lived, and the Ciberang and Ciujung rivers meet in the town.
