Reynoldstown is a historic neighborhood located on the near east side of Atlanta, Georgia. It is situated just two miles from downtown Atlanta, making it a convenient and close-knit part of the city. As an intown neighborhood, Reynoldstown has a rich history and offers a unique blend of old and new. The area is known for its charm and character, reflecting Atlanta's growth and development over the years.

History and demographics

Reynoldstown is a community that started after the American Civil War when freed slaves found jobs working for the railroad. Madison and Sarah Reynolds, two of the first families to settle there, may have given the neighborhood its name. In 1909, Reynoldstown became part of Atlanta. It still honors its history with an annual Wheelbarrow Festival. The area grew strong until the 1950s when the railroad business slowed down. In the 1990s, Reynoldstown began to renew itself, and its population changed from mostly Black to mostly White. In 2003, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Geography

Reynoldstown is a neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. It is located two miles from downtown. The area is bordered by Pearl Street to the west, Moreland Avenue and Edgewood to the east, I-20 to the south, and a railroad line and Inman Park to the north.

Reynoldstown is part of NPU N and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Some local landmarks include the Colgate Mattress Factory, the Habitat For Humanity headquarters, and a former railroad depot that is now a restaurant. The Beltline runs through the neighborhood, offering a paved walking and biking trail. There is also a small park called Lang-Carson Park within Reynoldstown.

Transportation

Memorial Drive is the main road that goes through the southern part of Reynoldstown. Many buildings along this road were used for industry but are now used for homes, shops, and fun places. Reynoldstown also has space set aside for a train line that is being built called the Beltline. The area can be reached by train at the Inman Park/Reynoldstown station, which is part of the MARTA train system.

Reynoldstown Civic Improvement League

The Reynoldstown Civic Improvement League, or RCIL, is the group that represents the Reynoldstown neighborhood in NPU-N. It works to help and support the community.
