Rockstar Energy is a popular brand of energy drinks that started in 2001. These drinks are made to give people a quick boost of energy, and they have become very well-known around the world. In 2020, Rockstar held a 10% market share of the global energy drink market, making it the third most popular brand after Red Bull and Monster Energy.
In 2020, the company that owned Rockstar Energy was bought by PepsiCo, a big food and beverage company. Then, in 2025, Celsius Holdings purchased the Rockstar brand in the United States and Canada. The headquarters of Rockstar Energy is located in Los Angeles, California, a big city on the west coast of the United States.
History
Rockstar Energy was started in 2001 by Russell Weiner. It wanted to stand out from Red Bull by using larger cans and a special slogan.
By 2007, Rockstar had become a top energy drink in North America and was sold in over 20 countries. In 2020, PepsiCo bought Rockstar Energy. Later, in 2025, Celsius Holdings bought the rights for the US and Canada, but PepsiCo still owns the brand worldwide.
Rockstar is based in Los Angeles, California.
Contents
Rockstar Energy Drink contains sugar, caffeine, and several herbs such as panax ginseng, ginkgo biloba, milk thistle extract, and guarana-seed extract. The amount of guarana in the drink was reduced after health concerns were raised. It also includes 1000 mg of taurine.
In Canada, there are several alcoholic versions of Rockstar available. In the US, an alcoholic version was stopped in 2007, possibly because people were mixing it up with the regular drink.
Sponsorship
Rockstar Energy, like other brands such as Red Bull and Monster Energy, has supported many action sports and music events. It sponsored festivals like the Mayhem Festival and Uproar Festival, as well as racing events like the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Starting in 2026, Rockstar will sponsor NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick.
