Ryan Dahl is an American software engineer born in 1981. He is best known for creating the Node.js JavaScript runtime, which changed how developers write and run web applications. Node.js made it easier for programmers to build fast and efficient network tools using JavaScript.

In addition to Node.js, Dahl also developed Deno, another JavaScript and TypeScript runtime. Deno was designed to offer a more secure and modern approach to running JavaScript code outside of web browsers. Both of his projects have had a big impact on the world of programming and continue to be widely used today.

Biography

Ryan Dahl grew up in San Diego, California. When he was six, his mother gave him an Apple IIc, which sparked his love for technology. He studied mathematics at UC San Diego and later went to the University of Rochester for grad school, where he studied algebraic topology.

After leaving grad school, Dahl traveled to South America and began creating web applications using Ruby. On May 27, 2009, he introduced his project called Node.js. After working on it for three years, he stepped back in January 2012 to focus on other projects while still advising from a distance.

In 2018, Dahl announced Deno, a new tool for running JavaScript and TypeScript code.
