Course areas and course configurations

For the Tornado sailing event, two course areas were used: A (Yellow) and E (Pink). Each had a different size, with Yellow being 0.6 nautical miles in radius and Pink being 0.75 nautical miles in radius. The races were planned to take about 60 minutes each, while the final medal race was shorter, around 30 minutes. The race managers had several options for setting up the courses.

There were different layouts for the races, such as the Windward-Leeward courses. Some of these layouts included multiple laps around certain points, making the races more challenging and exciting.

Weather conditions

Some people were worried about choosing Qingdao for the Olympics because they thought there would not be much wind. During the races, the wind was light and hard to predict. For the Tornado competition, a few races had to be moved to the next day, and they even needed an extra day to finish everything.
