San Francisco City FC

San Francisco City Football Club, often called SFCFC, is a soccer club based in San Francisco, California. The club is owned by its fans and plays in USL League Two, a league for developing soccer teams in the United States.

The club was started in 2001 and usually plays its home games at Kezar Stadium. Sometimes, they have also played at other stadiums like Boxer Stadium, Negoesco Stadium, and Cox Stadium.

One of the big moments for the team was when they got to compete in the U.S. Open Cup in 2016 and 2018. The U.S. Open Cup is one of the oldest soccer competitions in the United States, and it includes teams from all levels of play.

History

San Francisco City Football Club was started in 2001 by Jonathan Wright. The club joined the San Francisco Soccer Football League in 2002. After ten years, they moved up to the top division in 2012. With excitement growing for soccer because of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, club leader Jacques Pelham talked with fans about creating a club owned by its supporters.

In 2015, SF City tried to join a professional league but had to settle for another league after a disagreement. They merged with another team and later qualified for the US Open Cup, a big tournament. This was a big moment for San Francisco soccer. The club then joined the USL's Premier Development League in 2016, where they played many matches over the next few years.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, SF City could not play games and helped support the community online. In 2023, the club began a partnership with the city's public transit system for their team uniforms.

Ownership and operations

SF City is a club where fans own most of it. Members pay each year to get tickets, club gear like scarves, and a say in how the club is run, including choosing leaders for the club.

In 2016, SF City added some new investors who helped support the club. These included people like Alex Bard from Salesforce, Mitch Lowe who helped start Redbox, and others from well-known companies.

Supporters

The fans of San Francisco City FC are called "El Lado Norte" or "The Northsiders." They sit together in the north stand of Kezar Stadium during games. They enjoy standing, singing, cheering, waving flags, and showing special displays called tifos. The Northsiders also like to meet up, watch games away from home, and help their community. In 2019, they won an award for being the best supporters group in USL League Two. In 2020, they helped SF City win a fan-voted title. In 2025, two new groups formed: Kezar Union for younger fans and Fault Line Offenders.
