Saturn LVIII
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Saturn LVIII, also known as S/2004 S 26, is one of the farthest known moons of the planet Saturn. It was discovered by astronomers Scott S. Sheppard, David C. Jewitt, and Jan Kleyna. Their discovery was announced on October 7, 2019, after they studied images taken between December 12, 2004, and March 21, 2007.
This small moon is only about 4 kilometres across. It travels around Saturn at an average distance of 26.676 million kilometres, which is about 0.178 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, or 0.178 AU. Saturn LVIII takes roughly 1,627 days to complete one orbit, moving in the opposite direction of Saturn’s rotation. This kind of orbit is called retrograde, and it helps scientists understand more about the complex system of moons surrounding Saturn.
