Archaeology

In 2025, workers building in Sestu found an old burial place from around the 4th to 3rd century BC. This place belonged to the Punic people. During the digging, they found six special jars called amphorae that held human remains, which was a usual way for the Punic people to bury their dead. They also found some ceramics there.

Culture

Sestu has two folk groups called "I Nuraghi" and "San Gemiliano." These groups work to keep old traditions alive, like special clothes, languages, dances, and songs from the Campidano area and Sestu. They use instruments such as the launeddas, guitar singing, sung poetry, and a common diatonic accordion called sonètu in the Sardinian language.

Traditional dress of Sestu

These groups perform many traditional dances from all over Sardinia, including circle dances called ballitus or ballus tundus, passu torrau dances with a repeating step, and dances like the fiorassiu, puntu 'e organu, and mediana pippia that go with launeddas music.

Since 2004, the "I Nuraghi" group has held the International Folk Fest every summer. At this festival, groups from around the world come to share their cultures and traditions.
