South Africa took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 9 to February 25, 2018. This was the seventh time South Africa had joined the Winter Olympics.
The country had just one athlete, Connor Wilson, who carried the flag for South Africa during both the opening and closing ceremony. Even though South Africa tried their best, they did not win any medals in these Games.
Background
South Africa first joined the Summer Olympics in 1904 and the Winter Olympics in 1960. However, they could not compete for a while because of a unfair rule called apartheid. They were allowed back in 1992 and joined the Winter Olympics again in 1994. The 2018 Winter Olympics happened in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from February 9 to 25, 2018. South Africa had just one athlete, Connor Wilson, who carried the country's flag at the start and end of the games. He did not win a medal.

South Africa had one male athlete competing in alpine skiing. This athlete, Wilson, was born in Johannesburg and trained in Lesotho. He trained during his younger years in the United States, and later in New Zealand and Switzerland.
The alpine skiing events took place at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre in Bukpyeong. The weather was very cold and windy, the coldest it had been since the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. Wilson did not finish the men's giant slalom or men's slalom events.
