Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Stagecoach London is a big bus company that helps people travel around Greater London. It is part of a larger group called Stagecoach and works with Transport for London to run many bus routes. Most of its buses travel in East and South East London, with some going into the center of the city.
Stagecoach London is the biggest part of the Stagecoach Group. In just one year, from May 2018 to April 2019, more than 283 million people rode on its buses. By March 2025, the company had a huge fleet of 1,504 buses, making it an important way for many people to get around the city.
History
In 1994, Stagecoach bought the East London and Selkent bus services when London’s bus system was sold to private companies. These kept their old names until 2000 when they all became Stagecoach London.
Later, in 2006, Stagecoach sold these services to Macquarie Bank, which brought back the old East London and Selkent names. In 2010, Stagecoach bought them back again and used the Stagecoach London name once more.
In 2022, Stagecoach took over Tower Transit’s Lea Interchange garage and also bought some services from HCT Group, adding more buses and staff to its East London operation.
Operations
Stagecoach London runs bus services in London under an agreement with Transport for London. These services are managed by four groups, all using the Stagecoach London name. These groups operate in areas like East London, Selkent, Thameside, and Lea Interchange.
In 2000, Stagecoach changed the color design of its buses. After being sold to a bank, the buses were painted all red. Some older coach services and shops closed in the late 2000s. The main office moved from Ilford to the West Ham bus station.
Thameside
Rainham (RM)
Rainham bus station handles many routes and started operating for Transport for London again in 2008 after moving to a new place in 2007.
Lea Interchange Bus Company
Lea Interchange (LI)
Lea Interchange bus station also runs many routes. It opened in 2007 and was sold to Stagecoach London in 2022. Plans exist to build tall buildings there, including a new electric bus station.
Fleet
As of March 2023, Stagecoach London had a fleet of 1,488 buses. These buses help carry many people across London each day.
