Stolzmann's crab-eating rat (Ichthyomys stolzmanni) is a special kind of rodent that belongs to the Cricetidae family. This interesting animal lives in the countries of Ecuador and Peru. It is thought to be active mostly at night and likes to spend time near water, which means it is partly aquatic.

Scientists have seen these rats living between elevations of 900 to 1700 meters above sea level. In a study done in 2010, they discovered that this rat was causing problems at some local trout farms in the high grasslands of Peru called the puna. This shows how some animals can sometimes affect human activities in their homes.

Etymology

The name stolzmanni honors a Polish scientist named Jean Stanislas Stolzmann.
