Syria sent athletes to the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, a city in Catalonia, Spain. The country was represented by the Syrian Olympic Committee.

Nine athletes from Syria took part in the games. Eight of them were men, and one was a woman. They competed in four different sports: athletics, shooting, swimming, and wrestling. This was an important moment for Syrian sports, showing their participation in the worldwide Olympic event.

Athletics

Four Syrian athletes took part in the athletics events. Kheireldin Abeid ran in the men's 110 m hurdles, Moussa El-Hariri in the men's marathon, Zeid Abou Hamed in the men's 400 m hurdles, and Ghada Shouaa in the heptathlon.

In the men's 110 m hurdles, Abeid finished seventh in his heat with a time of 14.23 seconds but did not move on to the next round. Abou Hamed did not start his heat in the men's 400 m hurdles. El-Hariri finished the marathon in two hours, 47 minutes, and six seconds, placing 84th overall. Shouaa completed the heptathlon and scored 5,278 points, finishing 25th overall.

Shooting

One athlete from Syria, Farid Kharboutly, took part in the shooting event called skeet during the 1992 Summer Olympics. The competition happened on July 26, 1992, and after six rounds of shooting, Farid scored 144 points. He did not move on to the final round and shared the 33rd place overall.

Swimming

One Syrian athlete, Hisham Al-Masri, competed in swimming at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He swam in two races: the men's 400 m freestyle and the men's 1,500 m freestyle.

In the 400 m freestyle, Hisham finished first in his heat on July 29, 1992, but his time was not fast enough to move on to the finals. He also finished first in his heat for the 1,500 m freestyle that same day, but again, his time was not quick enough to advance.

Wrestling

Three Syrian athletes competed in wrestling events. Khaled Al-Faraj competed in the Greco-Roman −52 kg category, Ahmad Al-Osta in the freestyle −68 kg category, and Mohammad Hassoun in the Greco-Roman −48 kg category.

In the freestyle −68 kg event, Al-Osta faced Chris Wilson of Canada and Gérard Sartoro of France and did not advance further. In the Greco-Roman −52 kg event, Al-Faraj received a bye in the first round but did not advance after facing competitors from South Korea and the Unified Olympic Team. In the Greco-Roman −48 kg event, Hassoun also received a bye in the first round but did not advance after facing competitors from India and Italy.
