System software
Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Discoverer experience
System software is a special kind of software that helps other programs run on a computer. It includes important parts like the kernel and device drivers of an operating system. These pieces work behind the scenes to make sure everything operates smoothly.
Programs that people use everyday, like writing documents, playing video games, or listening to music, are called application or utility software. They focus on helping users do tasks, without worrying about how the computer itself works.
System software also includes tools like compilers and utility programs that help manage the computer's hardware and software. While many computers come with both system software and application software already installed, only system software is essential for the computer to function properly. Some utility programs are considered part of system software if removing them would cause other programs to stop working.
