TPC Scottsdale is a large golf complex with 36 holes located in Scottsdale, Arizona, in the southwestern part of the United States. It sits northeast of the city of Phoenix and has been a popular place for golf lovers since it opened in 1986.
The resort is part of the Tournament Players Club network, which is run by the PGA Tour. This means it is one of the many special golf courses they manage around the country.
One of its courses, called the Stadium Course, is very important because it hosts a big golf event every year. This event is known as the Phoenix Open and has been held there since 1987. Many famous golfers come to play in this exciting tournament.
Stadium Course
Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish were asked by the PGA Tour to build a course to host the Phoenix Open starting in 1987. The Stadium Course was created, sitting about 1,530 feet (470ย m) above sea level.
The par-3 16th hole on the Stadium Course is special because it is fully enclosed, making it unique on the PGA Tour. During the Phoenix Open, temporary grandstands can hold up to 20,000 fans around this hole. The crowd is very excited, cheering for good shots and reacting loudly if a shot goes off the green. Tiger Woods made a hole-in-one on this hole during the 1997 Phoenix Open, which thrilled everyone there. Since then, 11 other golfers have also made a hole-in-one on this hole, with Emiliano Grillo being the most recent in 2025.
Grass Types
The TPC Scottsdale golf course uses different types of grass to keep the course in great condition:
- Fairways: TifDwarf Grass
- Greens: TifDwarf Grass
