TVP Polonia

TVP Polonia, formerly known as TV Polonia, is an international channel of the Polish public service broadcaster Telewizja Polska. It is made for people of Polish heritage living outside of Poland and is co-funded by TVP and the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The channel broadcasts from the TVP headquarters in Warsaw.

It is one of two international channels of TVP, the other being TVP World. TVP Polonia shows many of the same programs as TVP’s domestic channels, along with news from Polish communities around the world.

The channel began as a trial in October 1992 and started regular broadcasts in March 1993. On September 1, 2020, an HD version was launched, replacing the SD version on Hot Bird 13. Starting December 1, 2025, the channel became part of TVP's "Ośrodek Mediów dla Zagranicy" structure. In 2026, because of money problems, it plans to stop some programs about life for Polish people living outside Poland and will focus more on a program called "Polonia 24. Tygodnik" with longer airtime.

Distribution

TVP Polonia can be watched in many countries around the world using cable or satellite services. It is also broadcast without encryption from different satellites.

Broadcasting through Astra 19.2°E began in 2005 but stopped on December 31, 2014, because of money problems.

In the Americas, the channel was shown by a Canadian company called Spanski Enterprises from December 13, 1994, until December 14, 2019. In 2016, a court in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said TVP did something wrong with copying rules because they showed shows online without geoblocking. Because of this, the channel stopped being shown in the Americas on December 14, 2019.

In Poland, TVP Polonia was added to a TV service called MUX3 on December 9, 2011, but removed on July 19, 2016, to make space for TVP Info HD. Later, on September 4, 2020, TVP Polonia HD started being shown on DVB-T2 test service. This version shows in better quality than the satellite version.

On July 17, 2021, TVP Polonia came back to TV in the USA on Dish Network and Sling TV (and also with TVP Wilno on Sling).

Logos and identities

The TVP Polonia channel had several logos over the years. The first logo used the words TVPOLONIA and had a Polish flag above it. This logo changed on March 31, 1997, to a new design with white and red colors. When the channel was renamed TVP Polonia on March 7, 2003, the logo was updated again to match the style of other TVP channels, using red as its main color. By February 4, 2020, the word POLONIA was made larger and separated from the logo box.
