Teknaf

Teknaf (Bengali: টেকনাফ) is a municipality of Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar District in south-eastern Bangladesh. It is the southernmost point in mainland Bangladesh, with St. Martin's Island being the very southernmost point.
The name Teknaf comes from the Naf River, which forms the eastern boundary of the upazila. This river also serves as the boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar. Teknaf port is an important place for trading with Myanmar.
History
Teknaf was first home to the Rakhine people, who named it Kawau Sang.
In May 2018, a councillor of Teknaf Municipality was sadly killed by members of the Rapid Action Battalion. Later, in 2021, the United States took action against some of these officers for their role in this event.
Administration and demographics
Teknaf municipality is made up of nine wards and 16 smaller areas called Mahallas.
The place has a population of 25,056 people, and about 40.9% of them can read and write.
