Tempo Networks is a television channel that shares Caribbean music and culture with the world. It shows many kinds of music videos, including Reggae, Soca, Dancehall, Ska, Calypso, Chutney, Chutney Soca, Reggaeton, and Punta rock. You can also watch news, dramas, and documentaries that tell stories about life in the Caribbean. Most of the shows are in English.
The channel started on November 30, 2005, and was first owned by MTV Networks. Since 2007, it has been run by its founder, Frederick Morton, Jr., and is located in Newark, New Jersey.
Tempo Networks is available on Cablevision in the New York area on Channel 1105, and it reaches over 3.5 million viewers across the Caribbean. You can also watch it live on the internet any time of day.
History
Tempo Networks started in 2005 by MTV Networks. To celebrate the launch, they held a concert series called "Caribbean Rising." This event showed many different kinds of music from the Caribbean.
Programs
Tempo Networks shows many fun shows about the Caribbean. Some of these shows include Badness Outta Style, Choices, and Cook-Up. There are also special shows like Cross Caribbean Countdown and Downtown Island.
The network makes its own movies too, such as HUSH, HUSH 2, and Hooked. Other films include The Black Moses Pindling and Chrissy.
Events
Tempo Networks hosts big events called "Tempo Turns". These are concerts that take place in the Caribbean islands and the United States. They attract many people from all over the world. One of these events, "TEMPO Turns 6", happened at Six Flags / Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.
Pro-social initiatives
TEMPO has created several projects to support positive change. These include school tours called Badness Outta Style, a campaign called One Love/Haiti, and a project named TEMPO Water. These initiatives aim to bring awareness and support to important causes.
Other
Tempo Networks also has other projects, such as TEMPO Bookings, which helps Caribbean artists find events to perform at, and the TEMPO Web Store. The network has partnered with tourist boards in places like Antigua, Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada, USVI, Barbados, and Turks & Caicos.
