A scenic view of Thornton Steward in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire.

Thornton Steward is a small village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, close to Wensleydale. In the 2011 Census, about 199 people lived there. The name comes from Old English words meaning a hawthorn tree on a farm, and it was once owned by someone who helped the Earls of Richmond.

The village has a reservoir owned by Yorkshire Water and is part of the North Yorkshire Council. One of its most important buildings is St Oswald's Church, which is thought to be the oldest church in Wensleydale, with some parts dating back to the year 680. The church was even featured on a TV show called Time Team, where they found signs of an old group of monks living there.

Thornton Steward was also shown in the British TV series All Creatures Great and Small in an episode named "If Wishes Were Horses". From the hill East Witton Fell, you can see the village, and on the other side, you can see Jervaulx Abbey. The village had a school started in 1815, but it closed down in the 20th century. It is near interesting places like Thorp Perrow Arboretum and the Green Howards regimental exhibition.
