The Tirso (Sardinian: Tirsu, Latin Thyrsus) is a long river that is very important for the island of Sardinia in Italy. It stretches for about 152 kilometers, or 94 miles. The river begins on a flat area called the plateau of Buddusò, near a place called Punta Pianedda, at a height of 985 meters above sea level, which is about 3,232 feet.

As it flows, the Tirso moves across the island from east to west. Along its journey, it passes through a large lake named Lake Omodeo. Finally, the river reaches the end of its journey and pours into the sea at a place called the Gulf of Oristano. This river is a key part of life and nature on Sardinia.
