Tomb of Jesus
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
According to the gospel accounts, Jesus was buried in a tomb which originally belonged to Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy man who believed Jesus was the Messiah. Joseph offered his own sepulcher for the burial of Jesus. This act showed his strong belief in Jesus' importance.
Christian tradition says that the tomb of Jesus is found in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This church is very special to many people because it is thought to be the place where Jesus was buried and later came back to life. Because of this, the church has been an important site for visitors and pilgrims for many years.
Church of the Holy Sepulchre
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a church located in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It holds two very important places for Christians. One is where Jesus was crucified, called Calvary (or Golgotha), and the other is where his empty tomb is believed to be. Christians believe Jesus was buried there and later resurrected.
In 2016, workers temporarily removed the marble covering on the stone where Jesus was thought to have been placed by Joseph of Arimathea to clean and restore it.
In the Apocrypha
In an old book called the Gospel of Peter, the tomb of Jesus is described as being in a garden that belonged to a man named Joseph. This garden is mentioned as the place where Jesus was buried.
