Popular places to visit in Russia are Saint Petersburg and Moscow, the current and former capitals. You can see amazing museums such as the Hermitage and Tretyakov Gallery, watch shows at famous theaters like Bolshoi and Mariinsky, and look at beautiful churches such as Saint Basil's Cathedral, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Saint Isaac's Cathedral, and Church of the Savior on Blood. You can also visit strong walls like the Kremlin and Peter and Paul Fortress, big open spaces like Red Square and Palace Square, and famous streets such as Tverskaya and Nevsky Prospect. Moscow has both very old buildings and modern ones like the Moscow International Business Center. Nizhny Novgorod is the main city in the Volga region. The city is split into two parts by the Oka River. The Upper City is where you will find older buildings and history. The Lower City has factories, shops, and busy places like the Fair, the old Sormovo and Kanavino areas, GAZ and Sotsgorod ("city inside the city"), the railway terminal, and the airport.
Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, shows a mix of Russian Christian and Muslim Tatar cultures.
The Sakha Republic sometimes offers tours to places that were once special to history but are not always easy to visit.
