Once finished, the Tribune East Tower will become the second-tallest building in Chicago, just after the Willis Tower. It will also rank among the tallest buildings in the Western Hemisphere.

As of 2023, workers were getting ready to start building it in early 2024, with the goal of completing it by September 2027. But as of 2025, construction has still not started.

History

The Tribune Tower is located on a property that includes several buildings and a parking lot. In 2016, the property was sold, and plans began for a new tall building called the Tribune East Tower. Originally planned to be very tall, the design was changed to be shorter than the Willis Tower, Chicago's tallest building.

The plans for the Tribune East Tower were approved by city officials in 2020. When built, it will be the second-tallest building in Chicago. The tower will include hotel rooms, apartments, and condos. Construction is set to begin in 2024 and finish in 2027. The building will also include parking spaces and some affordable housing units.
