Two Medicine

Two Medicine is a special area in the southeastern part of Glacier National Park, located in the U.S. state of Montana. It features a beautiful campground next to Two Medicine Lake and was one of the most visited parts of the park from the late 1890s until the Going-to-the-Sun Road was completed in 1932. Along the lake’s shore stands the Two Medicine Store, an important building recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

The area is a great starting point for many hiking trails, and tour boats take visitors across Two Medicine Lake. From there, you can see the steep south face of Rising Wolf Mountain. For many years, this place has been very important to several Native American tribes, especially the Blackfeet, who considered it sacred ground and used it for special ceremonies called Vision quests. Besides Chief Mountain, Two Medicine is the most sacred part of the park for the Blackfeet people.

From the Two Medicine Store, hikers can explore trails leading west and north. The area is home to three main lakes: Lower Two Medicine Lake, which lies within the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Two Medicine Lake where the store and boat rides are located, and Upper Two Medicine Lake, about a 4-mile (6.4 km) hike from the trailhead.
