U.S. state and territory temperature extremes
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The United States has many different climates, from very hot places to very cold ones. Each of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the 5 inhabited U.S. territories has its own highest and lowest temperatures ever recorded. These records have been kept for the past two hundred years, showing just how extreme the weather can get in different parts of the country.
Some places get extremely hot, while others can become very cold. For example, some areas have felt temperatures as high as 135 °F (57 °C), and others as low as -80 °F (-62 °C). When two places share the same temperature record, like Aibonito and San Sebastian in Puerto Rico, only the most recent date is shown.
These temperature records help scientists and weather experts understand climate patterns and prepare for extreme weather. They are measured in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, so people all around the world can understand them. By looking at these records, we can learn more about how weather changes over time in the United States.
