Valverde, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Valverde is a municipality in the Canary Islands, located in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It sits on the northeast part of the island of El Hierro, with the rest of the island made up of the municipalities of Frontera and El Pinar. The town of Valverde is special because it is the official capital of El Hierro. It is the smallest capital in the Canary Islands and unique because it is not located by the sea. The town's airport and seaport are several kilometers away on the island's east coast.
The central part of Valverde is mostly pastureland and small farms. As you move to higher elevations, you’ll find pine forests and cloud forest. The areas near the coast and lower slopes are dry and covered with scrub and sparse grassland. The landscape has been shaped by volcanism, and you can see several cinder cones and areas where lava has flowed.

Valverde has a tropical desert climate, which means the weather stays mild and warm all year. In winter, temperatures average around 18.8 °C (65.8 °F) and rarely drop below 10 °C (50.0 °F). Frost never occurs. Most rain falls in the winter months.
In summer, temperatures are warm, with September being the warmest month, averaging 24.1 °C (75.4 °F). Rain is very scarce during this time. Because Valverde is near the sea, extreme temperatures are unusual, with the highest ever recorded at 34.2 °C (93.6 °F).
Valverde sits at an altitude of 571 metres above sea level, which affects its weather compared to the nearby El Hierro airport, located just 32 metres above sea level.
