WRBO (103.5 FM) was a radio station based in Germantown, Tennessee, serving the Memphis metropolitan area. It was owned by Cumulus Media and played urban adult contemporary music, which included both current and classic R&B songs. The station’s studios were in the Memphis Radio Group building in East Memphis, and its transmitter was located in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
History
From 1966 to 1998, the radio station on 103.5 FM was licensed to New Albany, Mississippi, serving the Tupelo area. Over the years, it changed its call letters several times and its music style as well.
In 1997, a company from Massachusetts bought the station and planned to move it to the bigger Memphis, Tennessee area. By May 1, 1998, the station was re-licensed to Como, Mississippi and started broadcasting with the call letters WRBO. It began playing classic R&B music in June 1998.
Later, the station was bought by different companies. In 2011, WRBO started adding more current R&B songs to its playlist while still playing classic ones. Today, it features popular morning shows and competes with another local station.
