Seismic activity

Main article: 2008 Illinois earthquake

The Wabash Valley Fault System is located in parts of Illinois, Indiana, and a small part of Kentucky. On April 18, 2008, a Magnitude 5.2 earthquake happened near Bellmont, Illinois. People felt it in many places, even as far as Chicago and St. Louis. There were no serious injuries, though a porch collapsed in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, trapping a woman who was quickly helped and was not hurt. This earthquake happened on the same day as a big earthquake in San Francisco many years before, in 1906. The biggest earthquake ever recorded in this area was a 5.4 magnitude one in 1968.
