Yukon Liberal Party
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The Yukon Liberal Party (French: Parti libéral du Yukon) is a political party in the territory of Yukon, Canada. It works to represent the people of Yukon at the territorial level, focusing on local issues and decisions that affect the community.
Unlike some other parties, the Yukon Liberal Party is not officially connected to the federal Liberal Party of Canada. This means it operates independently, making its own choices and policies to best serve the needs of Yukon's residents.
Political parties like the Yukon Liberal Party play an important role in how communities are governed. They help decide on laws, services, and resources for people living in the area. Their work shapes many aspects of daily life in Yukon, from schools to healthcare to infrastructure.
History
After many years as a small party, the Yukon Liberal Party won the election in 2000 and formed a government led by Premier Pat Duncan. However, this government became weaker, and Duncan called another election in 2002 hoping to gain more support. Unfortunately, the party lost most of its seats.
The party stayed out of power until the 2016 election, when it won a majority and Sandy Silver became Premier. After the 2021 election, the NDP made an official agreement to support the Liberals. In the 2025 election, only one Liberal member tried to stay in office, and the party lost most of its seats again.
