Zülpich

Zülpich is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located between Aachen and Bonn. It is part of the district of Euskirchen. The town has a rich history and is known for its beautiful old buildings and charming atmosphere. People have lived in this area for many centuries, and Zülpich still shows signs of its past with historic sites and traditions.

History

The town of Zülpich is thought to be the place once called Tolbiacum in Latin. A big battle happened there between the Franks led by Clovis I and the Alemanni. People usually say this battle was in the year 496, but many modern historians think it was in 506 instead.

Later, in 1969, several small areas around Zülpich were joined together to become part of the town. Then, in 1972, a few more areas were added to Zülpich.

Zülpich has several interesting places to see. You can visit Zülpich Castle and the Wassersportsee Zülpich, a place where people enjoy water activities.

Other sights include Zülpich's Cologne gate, Sinzenich's Jewish cemetery, and the church of St. Gereon in Dürscheven. There is also a Museum of Bathing Culture to explore.

Theo Breuer is known as an author and editor. Silke Rottenberg, a former national football player, grew up in Zülpich. Oliver Krischer, a biologist and politician for The Greens, has been a Member of Bundestag since 2009 and lives in Düren.
