The Zu Lai Temple (Chinese: 如來寺, Portuguese: Templo Zu Lai; lit. 'Tathāgata Temple') is a Buddhist temple in Cotia, São Paulo state, Brazil. It is the largest Buddhist temple in South America, covering 10,000 square meters of built space within a total area of about 150,000 square meters. The temple follows the teachings of the Fo Guang Shan order from Taiwan and practices the Mahāyāna branch of Buddhism. This grand temple serves as an important center for Buddhist practices and teachings in the region, welcoming people from all backgrounds to learn and explore its peaceful surroundings.

History

The first stone of the Zu Lai Temple was placed in 1999, and the temple officially opened its doors in October 2003.
