The 1960 Summer Olympics, also called Rome 1960, was a big sports event. It happened in Rome, Italy, from August 25 to September 11, 1960. This was very special for Rome because they wanted to host the games before, but could not. Now, many athletes from all over the world came to compete.

For the first time, the 1st Paralympic Games happened with the Olympics. This let athletes with disabilities join in the fun too.

Many amazing things happened in these games. Wilma Rudolph, who had a health problem when she was little, won three gold medals. Abebe Bikila from Ethiopia ran the marathon barefoot and won!

The games had many different sports like swimming, running, gymnastics, and more. Over 83 countries sent athletes to compete. It was a happy time for everyone who loved sports.
