Welcome to Abruzzo

Abruzzo is a beautiful region in southern Italy. It is home to about 1.3 million people and has four provinces: L'Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, and Chieti. The capital city is L'Aquila, while Pescara is the largest city and a busy port.

Abruzzo is surrounded by many interesting places. It borders Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and northwest, Molise to the south, and the Adriatic Sea to the east. The western part of Abruzzo is full of mountains, including the highest peaks of the Apennines. Two famous mountains are Gran Sasso d'Italia and Maiella. The eastern part has lovely beaches where you can enjoy the sun and sea.

Abruzzo is often called "the greenest region in Europe" because it has more protected areas than any other Italian region. There are three national parks, one regional park, and 38 nature reserves. These areas are home to special animals like the golden eagle, the Abruzzo chamois, the Apennine wolf, and the Marsican brown bear. The region also has Calderone, one of Europe’s southernmost glaciers.

The people of Abruzzo are known for their spirit, described by the motto "forte e gentile" (strong and kind). This captures the character of the region and its friendly people.
