What is Admiralty Arch?

Admiralty Arch is a very special building in London. It stands between The Mall and Trafalgar Square. This grand arch was built to honor Queen Victoria by her son, King Edward VII.

Who Built It?

The architect who designed Admiralty Arch was Aston Webb. He also helped design the front of Buckingham Palace and the Victoria Memorial. The building was finished in 1912, even though King Edward VII could not see it completed.

Fun and Fancy Uses

For many years, Admiralty Arch had important offices inside. Today, it will become a fancy hotel called the Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch, opening in 2026. During big celebrations, like royal weddings or the end of the Olympic Games, people walk under the arch. The middle arch is only for royalty!

A Funny Secret

Inside the top arch, there is a shape that looks like a giant human nose. An artist added it in 1997 as a playful way to remind people that they are always being watched. This nose is very big—about seven feet high!
