Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a country in Central and South Asia. It is surrounded by many countries. To the east and south it touches Pakistan. Iran is to the west. Turkmenistan is to the northwest. Uzbekistan is to the north. Tajikistan is to the northeast. And China is also nearby.

The land of Afghanistan is mostly mountains with some flat areas. The capital city is Kabul. People have lived in Afghanistan for a very long time. Many different cultures and religions have shaped the area over time.

Afghanistan is known for its beautiful saffron and for making cashmere. The country has valuable resources like lithium. Afghanistan has a rich history with many famous visitors, like Alexander the Great.

People and Culture

Afghans belong to several groups. The largest group is the Pashtuns. Other groups include the Tajiks, the Hazaras and the Uzbeks. The main languages are Dari and Pashto.

Most Afghans follow Islam. There are also small communities of Sikhs and Hindus, mainly in cities like Kabul.

Afghans enjoy many traditions. Family is very important. They love poetry, music, and dancing. Traditional clothes include the shalwar kameez and the chador.
