Ancient Egyptian Afterlife Beliefs
The people of ancient Egypt had special ideas about what happens after we die. They believed in a happy place called the afterlife, where good souls could live forever. Their religion taught that many Egyptian gods helped guide people’s souls to this peaceful home.
Egyptians thought the afterlife had a special place called the Duat. It was like a beautiful underworld with rivers and farms. People believed that after death, their souls would travel there to meet important gods like Osiris. Osiris was a kind god who decided if a person’s life had been good.
To help their loved ones, families built tombs filled with treasures and special items. They also wrote magic spells in books called the Book of the Dead. These spells were like maps to guide the soul through the journey.
People hoped to do the things they loved in the afterlife, like farming or sailing. They believed the afterlife was full of green fields and nice places, just like the banks of the Nile river. Everyone wanted to live there and be happy forever.
