Araucaria araucana

The Araucaria araucana, also called the monkey-puzzle tree, is a tall, green tree that grows very high—up to about as tall as a 12-story building! It has thick, triangular leaves and grows in parts of Chile and Argentina. This special tree is even chosen as the national tree of Chile.

People love this tree for its unique look and cool shape. It is sometimes called the "monkey puzzle" because its tricky branches make it hard even for monkeys to climb! The tree’s seeds are also eaten by people and taste like yummy pine nuts.

The Araucaria araucana is important to many people, but it faces some problems. Too many trees were cut down, and fires hurt some forests. This made the number of these trees go down, so now people work hard to protect them. It is important for everyone to help keep this beautiful tree safe for the future.
