Arnold Toynbee

Arnold Toynbee was an English historian who loved learning about how money and work affect people. He was born on August 23, 1852, in London, and grew up with eight brothers and sisters. His father was a doctor, and one of his sisters even became a scientist!

Toynbee studied at Oxford University and learned a lot about how factories changed life in Britain. He was the first person to use the words โ€œIndustrial Revolutionโ€ to describe these big changes. He believed that learning from history could help make the world better for everyone.

Because Toynbee cared so much about helping working families, a special building in London was named after him. It is called Toynbee Hall. This place helps people in the community and continues his work of making life fairer and better for all. Even though Toynbee passed away in 1883 at a young age, his ideas and kindness still help people today.
